Canterbury tops home building with a fifth of New Zealand’s new builds
New homes are being built in Canterbury at a faster rate than anywhere else in New Zealand.
In the past year, 6500 new homes were consented by Canterbury councils - equating to 9.4 homes per thousand residents, according to Stats NZ. This was the highest rate in the country, exceeding the Auckland region’s 8.8 homes per thousand residents and almost three times the Wellington region’s rate of 3.3.
